In 2015, she surprised many by winning the women's singles title at Wimbledon as an underdog. Three years later, she reached the 116th position in the world rankings. However, in 2020, she made the difficult choice to retire from tennis, primarily due to ongoing back problems.

"My body needed rest," she told Bild.
